Can Clouds Help Us Identify
Precipitation Patterns?

Lesson Objectives:
Students will:

1.Identify the clouds in our
local area daily.
2.Observe the weather present
with each type of cloud
cover.

Needed materials:

Pictures & descriptions of
each type of cloud to use
when identifying.(books,
computer, posters,etc.)
A blank table to record daily
picture observations, cloud
types, and weather
description.
An outdoor area with a
clearing for an unobstructed
view of the sky.

Instructional Strategies:

What types of weather
accompany each cloud
formation?

Procedures:

1.Go outdoors and draw
pictures of the clouds.
2.Compare books, charts,
posters, etc. to identify the
clouds observed.
3.Use describing words to tell
about the weather for the
day.

Assessment:

1.Discuss and reason in small
groups the connections found
between the weather and
cloud types.
2.Draw a comic strip showing
your position on whether or
not clouds allow us to draw
conclusions about
precipitation.
